Canada Research Chair in Materials ScienceMay 16, 2012Canada Research Chair in Materials Science The Department of Physics at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a prestigious Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Materials Science, with a focus on synthesis of correlated electron materials in single crystal form. Applicants should have internationally recognized expertise in this area and will have already made significant contributions to the growth and understanding of particular correlated electron systems. In addition to materials growth, the CRC holder will be an excellent physicist in his or her own right, with skill in physical property measurement and theoretical interpretation. The ideal candidate will have interests in a wide range of materials, and the ability to respond quickly to new materials developments. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses, supervise graduate students, and generally contribute to innovative teaching of physics at the university. The CRC holder will have a joint affiliation with SFU's 4D LABS research institute, and will build linkages between the Departments of Physics and Chemistry, and the School of Engineering Science, by participating in collaborative projects in areas such as: He or she will join and further strengthen an already very strong experimental and theoretical research group working in these areas and, more generally, one of the strongest condensed matter physics groups in Canada. The projected start date is September 1, 2013, subject to approval by the CRC Secretariat. The appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor level. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents of Canada will be given priority. Simon Fraser University is committed to an equity employment program that includes special measures to achieve diversity among its faculty and staff. We therefore particularly encourage applications from qualified women, aboriginal Canadians, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae as well as a concise research proposal and arrange for three letters of recommendation* to be sent to: Dr. Simon Watkins, Chair This competition will remain open until the position is filled. Screening of applications will commence on July 1, 2012. *Under the authority of the University Act, personal information that is required by the University for academic appointments will be collected.
